A typical chemical laboratory or industrial test facility contains a lot of various scientific instruments and accessories collected over many years: gas and liquid chromatographs, mixers, distillers, pumps, ovens, etc.  If broken, they are typically discarded since no manual or descriptions are any more available and therefore repair is demanding.
